ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her and her two sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan played a variety of sports throughout her childhood but didn't really like soccer until she turned 14. She then became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to develop her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. She was chosen as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She also played for regional and state divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan completed her soccer journey at UC Berkeley, where she played a key role in leading the California Golden Bears team in scoring since the beginning of her season. The team was able to reach the NCAA Tournament in four years, and two times to the second round. Morgan was among four finalist candidates for the Honda Sports Award and the first student from her college to rank among the top Hermann Trophy finalists. When she graduated earlier in the year, Morgan was ranked third in all-time scoring goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan had a variety of soccer careers at both the collegiate as well as national levels throughout her studies. The first time she was on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that kept her from participating in the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April. Morgan scored her first international goal in Mexico at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan took part in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, scoring four goals and receiving the gold medal among other accolades.Morgan was then absorbed by the senior national team, in which she was substituted and scored several important goals. One of them was a win over Italy that gave the U.S. team the final spot in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead it to victory against France. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and led them to victory against Japan.
